Device Driver for Windows CE

The Windows® CE driver is a loadable drivers which need not be included into the Windows ® CE system image (binary).
Therefore, the driver consists of two DLLs. The driver itself and the application programming interface (API) DLL. The API for the access to the driver and thus to the CIF is compatible to the already existing interface for Windows® systems. The Driver supports the PC card with ISA bus (thus also PC/104) interface and PCMCIA cards.
For easier configuration of the CIF card, the API is extended by means of a Firmware and Configuration Download Function.
This function is included into the driver interface DLL and is able to load configuration data or firmware files on to the CIF card.
The fieldbus configuration is created and tested by the system configurator SyCon® on a Windows® 95/98/ME or Windows® NT/2000/XP based system (Desktop/Notebook).

The scope of supply includes all components in source code. This comprises the driver, the API DLL including the necessary Header files and the test, setup and demo programs.
The driver and the applications, for the processor types supported by the Embedded Toolkit 2.10 are included in compiled executable code. Versions for processors that are not included in this Toolkit can be created easily by the use of the supplied source code.

Device Driver for Linux

A Device Driver is required for the communication between the Communication Interface and the PC applications under the Linux operating system. The driver contains the complete management of the interface and has a simple interface.
The user is responsible only for the transfer of the correct parameters to the Device Driver. All dependencies on the operating system such as interrupt management and time monitoring are carried out
by the driver. Therefore, the user interface is independent of the operating system.

The driver works together with all our Communication Interfaces and comprises all functions for initialising, parameterising, exchange of data and retrieval of status information. The driver works in Polling or Interrupt operation and services a maximum of four cards in one PC. However, the card can be utilised as ISA, PCI or PC/104. The functions of the Device Driver are independent of the fieldbus system.
The access to the variables in the process image is fully identical. What is different are the parameters of the diagnostic and status structures, as well as fieldbus-specific commands. Associated definitions are included as header files.

The driver is supplied together with the setup program and test program in source code. This makes the first time use easy.

CIFX/netX device driver for Windows CE

Most operating systems and real-time extensions require a device driver to integrate hardware components. Hilscher CIFX/COMX components require such device drivers as well.

Hilscher offers a series of device drivers for a wide variety of operating systems and Windows real-time extensions.

All Hilscher drivers have a standard user interface (CIFX-API) and are based on a C toolkit that can also be used for developing independent device drivers.

The drivers are fully responsible for administering the communication components, a task that includes loading firmware and configuration files. The user interface contains all of the functions needed to initialize, parametrize and exchange data, and to sort status information.

Depending on the operating system and real-time expansion, the user interface is housed in a DLL or library, and the drivers support existing bus connections (ISA/PCI/PCIe and dual-port memory connections) wherever possible. The C toolkit, and therefore the basis of the drivers’ code, is designed in such a way that an unlimited number of communication components can be used simultaneously. However, the specific characteristics of each operating system must be taken into account.

The CIFX/netX device driver for Windows CE is a “stream” driver that runs in the kernel of the operating system. It consists of a driver DLL and an API-DLL and can be integrated into a Windows CE image or loaded from a data carrier at the time of operation. The driver interface is compatible with the CIFX API offered in Windows by the CIFX Windows driver. The API-DLL is used to convert the CIFX API functions to corresponding IO control requests from the driver.
The driver supports both direct dual-port memory connections (DPM) and ISA, PCI and PCI/e components, which can be combined arbitrarily.

INtime is a product offered by TenAsys; it is a real-time kernel that can expand a standard Windows PC system by adding hard real-time features according to industrial requirements.
The INtime driver offers access to netX-based hardware (e.g. CIFX50) with the same functionality as Windows, and it runs in a separate address range during the real-time expansion.
The INtime driver provides a special version of the Windows CIFX application DLL that allows Windows applications to access the hardware via the INtime driver.
